      Title:  Visisting Scientist / Microbiologist

Responsibilities include: 1) examining the susceptibility of varying materials to biodegradation; 2) growing and maintaining biofilms for the development of novel imaging and mass spectrometry techniques; 3) purifying glucose fructose oxidoreductase for a separative bioreactor the lab created; 4) measuring iron reduction and UVI reduction by bacteria; and 5) characterizing exopolysaccharides and other exuded compounds by soil bacteria.

 

NATIONAL CENTER FOR AGRICULUTURAL UTILIZATION RESEARCH                                                  2002-2004

Fermentation Biotechnology Division

Title: Research Microbiologist

Responsibilities included: 1) acquiring field samples from fuel ethanol plants, 2) isolating, identifying, maintaining and storing contaminating bacterial species found in the field samples, 3) characterization of biofilms produced by the bacteria isolated, and 4) studying the antimicrobial susceptibility of the isolated bacterial species.

Title:  Post-doctoral Fellow

Responsibilities included: 1) Studying N-deactylase/N-sulfotransferase enzyme differences and integrin expression variation between show racer and white carneau pigeon smooth muscle cells; 2) Tested ACAT inhibitors, in vitro and on whole cells; 3) Selected to develop a high throughput method to aid in study of enzymes involved in cholesterol ester pathways; and 4) Trained graduate students on assays and tissue culture techniques.

Responsibilities included: 1) Studing interactions of superoxide and nitric oxide free radicals following liver ischemia­­/reperfusion; 2) Developed and demonstrated effects of a novel nitrosation product of uric acid on vaso­relaxation properties of rat thoracic aorta; 3) co-wrote patent on antibodies against aldehyde oxidase; 4) Developed an HPLC method for nitrotyrosine; and 5) coordinated liver transplants, acquired donor and recipient samples.
